This week we are encouraging people to talk more about what they want from their future care, particularly when they are reaching the end of their life.
This past year has taught us the world around us can change quickly.
Thinking about what matters to us and letting those important to us know can help us get the care we want and those around us give the care we need.
It doesn’t have to be the big things either.
Imagine you are in a care setting. What would you want the people caring for you to know?
Would you like music playing? Is it important to you that they know how many sugars you have in your tea?
Do you want someone to do your hair and make-up for you if you can’t?
These smaller details might be very significant to you or someone you love and it’s important that we feel comfortable having those conversations so that you know you will have the best life right until the end.
Talking about important subjects like how you’d like to be cared for at the end of your life or where you would like to die, isn’t a matter of having one conversation which covers everything.
It will be many small conversations which can be informal and light-hearted or more formal.
Whatever feels natural for you.
That’s why we’re asking people to have the conversation and tell people what matters most to them.
This week we’ll share a daily video about people having this conversation, what matters to them and why it’s important to them.
We hope that you’ll join the conversation and tell three people what matters to you.
