People invited to view free art exhibition in Lancaster

Date posted: 7th September 2021

People in Lancaster are invited to view a free exhibition of artwork created by young and older residents.

The exhibition will be held in The Gallery at The Storey, Lancaster (first floor with accessible access), and is open from 9.30am to 7pm each day, from Tuesday 7 September to Friday 10 September.

The artwork is part of a community competition run annually by Lancaster Integrated Care Community (ICC) as part of the Lancaster Health Festival and promotes integrated collaboration and has been proven to improve wellbeing.

This year, 55 entries were submitted from schools, residential and nursing homes, community groups and some individuals. Shortlisting took this to 41 entries with the public having the opportunity to vote online via the ‘Let’s Talk Morecambe Bay’ website. Those attending the exhibition will have the opportunity to vote too.  A winner will be chosen for each category which is based upon the age of those taking part: these are 0-16, 17-64 and 65+.

Sarah Baines, Development Lead for Lancaster ICC, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled with the entries we've received this year, it's fantastic to see both young and old taking part. I hope people are able to come along to the Storey and vote for their favourite design. This year we've introduced online voting, for those who can’t make it down."

The collage was designed by a local artist, with the castle being chosen as an iconic landmark of Lancaster. Entries were submitted to Lancaster ICC and the winners will be chosen by the community.

The fifth annual Lancaster Health Festival took place 29 July to 1 August 2021. The Lancaster Health Festival has one very simple aim: to create spaces and opportunities for people to have conversations – easy or difficult – with family, friends, neighbours, and with ourselves.
