Health inequalities project in Grange and Lakes

The Grange and Lakes Integrated Care Community (ICC) and Primary Care Network has been undertaking a health inequalities project to explore why migrant workers in the area are not engaging with health and care services that they are eligible to access. The ICC and PCN carried out a consultation with migrant workers last year which highlighted that: 

• they were not able to access GP services  
• they needed more support for mental health conditions
• they were unable to access health and wellbeing activities 
• they need better access to dental care 
• language and translation barriers prevented them from accessing services.  

The ICC and PCN has invited migrant workers from the Grange and Lakes area to attend a workshop on Tuesday 1 March to address some of the issues and concerns raised in the consultation. The event will be attended by a practice manager who will talk about how to register with a GP surgery and a dental nurse who will talk about oral hygiene. Active Cumbria will also be leading warm-up exercises and a mindfulness session and the Innovation Agency will offer health checks. The workshop is supported by the All Together Now Group in Ambleside.
