Congratulations from Bay Health and Care Partners leadership to staff vaccinating across Morecambe Bay
Date posted: 21st January 2021Following Prime Minister Boris Johnson's recognition that Morecambe Bay has worked tirelessly to ensure more than 80% of its care home staff and residents have now had their first vaccination, leaders in Morecambe Bay have congratulated the hard-working teams behind the success.
Geoff Joliffe, Joint Chair of Bay Health and Care Partners, said: "Our local NHS services, GP practices, hospitals and countless volunteers have worked together tirelessly to ensure that our most frail communities have received their initial vaccination shot as quickly as possible. This has meant a great deal of additional work for many of our GP practices, who have been operating vaccination sites seven days a week and often 12 hours per day, together with staff at vaccination centres around the Bay and we are immensely grateful for their professionalism and commitment to get the job done. We all share the hope that the vaccine offers, however, we must not yet relax our vigilance in washing our hands, keeping a safe distance from others and wearing our face masks."
Services are still working to complete the roll-out of the vaccination to the remaining care homes, and are expected to complete this as soon as possible. Following that, the over-70s and extremely clinically vulnerable patients will be invited to their appointments to receive the vaccination. Your local NHS will contact you when it's your turn to receive the vaccine.
The vaccine roll-out complements a range of measures offered by Morecambe Bay health services to support the area's care homes, including remote clinical monitoring, infection prevention training for care home staff, support to manage high-quality palliative care and widespread testing.
