Celebrating our teams...Terri Sethi, Volunteer for Morecambe Bay Foodbank
Date posted: 27th May 2022There are a variety of roles across BHCP and other organisations we work with in the community. Here we shine the spotlight on the people who carry out a range of roles to keep our communities healthy and supported.
Terri Sethi is a warehouse volunteer and occasional volunteer driver's assistant for Morecambe Bay Foodbank. Terri has volunteered for the foodbank for 10 years.
Morecambe Bay Foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in the area. It began life at the GYM Church on Green Street in Morecambe and has now moved to Anchor Building, Westgate in Morecambe. Morecambe Bay Foodbank has just released the figures for the year to March 2022 and over 11,000 emergency food parcels were delivered across the Lancaster District.
What experience did you need to obtain your role?
I saw on Facebook that Morecambe had a new foodbank so spent about £50 in a supermarket on food to donate. We got chatting to the boss and she offered us a cup of tea and then asked us if we would like to volunteer.
No experience was needed. I also volunteer one morning a week at St John's Hospice charity shop.
What does your role involve?
My role involves dating donations, organising stock and then making up food parcels.
What have been the best bits and challenges of your role?
I enjoy working with wonderful people and helping a good cause.
There are no challenges in the role but there is a worry of hunger becoming worse not only in my local area but across the UK.
