New combined drive-through and walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic comes to Preston

A new combined drive-through and walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic is opening on the Moor Park car park across from Preston North End Football Club this week giving local residents and those passing through the chance to conveniently grab a jab on the go!

The site, based opposite the Splash Statue at Preston North End Football Club on Sir Tom Finney Way, PR1 6RU, will open from Wednesday, 16 February, operating between 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, seven days a week.

It is offering booster jabs, as well as first and second doses to everyone aged 12 and over. 16 and 17-year-olds can also get their boosters if it has been at least 91 days since their second dose.

The site is part of the national drive to get as many people boosted as possible due to the Omicron COVID-19 variant and is one of only a few drive-throughs in the country.

There’s no need to book, anyone eligible can simply drive in or walk-up. Visitors will be able to go inside the mobile unit for their jab if they are a walk-in, or park in a bay in their car and the vaccinator will come to them.

Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, Lancashire County Council's Director of Public Health, said:

“Vaccinations, coupled with sensible precautions to reduce the spread, are still the best protection we have against COVID-19.

It is vital that everyone is able to have access to a vaccine and the drive-through vaccination centre allows us to protect even more people.

It is never too late so if you are eligible for your first, second or booster dose, please come forward now."

Jane Scattergood, Chief Nurse and Senior Responsible Officer for Lancashire and South Cumbria, is urging people to get their booster jab without delay.

“As soon as you are eligible, please do come forward. Vaccination is extremely important in our continued fight against COVID-19 and these pop-up sites mean people have more opportunities to get their jab at a time and place that suits them.

Why not bring the whole family down to get vaccinated together? These services can vaccinate everyone aged 12 and over.

We will continue to do all we can to protect the communities we serve. It is just as important to get vaccinated now as it was on day one of the programme, and it has never been easier to walk in and get your jab while you are out and about.          

I also want to take this opportunity to again say a huge thank you to all our staff and partners who are working hard on the delivery of the vaccination programme.”

All adults in England are eligible for a booster COVID-19 vaccine, as long as it has been three months (or 91 days) since your second dose. People also have to wait 28 days after a positive COVID-19 test result to have a vaccine (or 12 weeks if aged 12-17).

This new site on Moor Park car park, allows people to walk in or drive through, enabling a quick and hassle-free way to get vaccinated.
