GP practices in Blackpool, Clitheroe, Preston, Kirkby Lonsdale, and Rawtenstall have started to take delivery of the vaccine, with their first clinics starting from Tuesday 29 December.  This brings the total of local vaccination sites, run by family doctors and their teams, to 27 across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Groups of health providers are setting up local vaccination centres in villages, towns and cities, covering every part of the country.

There are a range of factors that have shaped the roll out plan for vaccination services, including population characteristics, logistics, staffing, buildings and the fact there is currently a limited supply of vaccine nationally. It is expected that the supply will step up incrementally in the New Year.

Nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and other NHS staff are working alongside GPs to vaccinate those aged 80 and over, as well as care home workers and residents, identified as priority groups for the life-saving vaccine.

The NHS will contact people in the priority groups when it is their turn to receive the vaccine.
