Covid jab rollout for 12 to 15-year-olds to start in schools in Lancashire and South Cumbria in the coming weeks

Date posted: 16th September 2021

Parents, guardians, or carers of children aged 12-15 will begin to receive letters from next week, with details of when the vaccination will be offered.

They will also be asked to provide consent for their child to receive the vaccination, either through an online or a paper form.

Parents or guardians do not need to contact their local GP or other NHS services, nor make an appointment through the National Booking Service. Providers will put in place processes to exclude children that have already received a first dose under previous JCVI advice.

The vaccine will not be given to any child without the proper consent being in place and consent will be sought in line with existing school vaccination programmes.

Children will primarily receive their COVID-19 vaccination in their school with alternative provision for those who are home schooled, in secure services or specialist mental health settings.

If you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine you can ask Lancashire and South Cumbria’s local immunisation expert Aunty Carol.

Over 4 in 5 adults across the UK have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, with over half of all 16- and 17-year-olds coming forward for their first jab.

The National Booking Service is currently open to anyone aged 18 or over, and to people within three months of their 18th birthday.

Second doses are available to people over 18 who had their first dose eight weeks ago, in line with JCVI guidance.

If you are over 18 you can book your vaccination, by calling 119 or visiting your local walk-in clinic, where no appointment is needed.
